Abstract :
Social work is becoming more prevalent in Malaysia and Indonesia. More people are becoming aware of the importance of professional social work services to help improve services in various areas such as welfare, medical, crime, and education. The establishment of the Malaysian Association of Social Workers (MASW) and the Association of Professional Social Workers Indonesia (IPSPI) clearly indicate the concern for such services in both countries. However, the knowledge of practitioners in professional social work services in the community is still minimal. Lack of knowledge among practitioners can create problems and difficulties in getting acceptance for the social work activities in various institutions including in schools. This article evaluates the level of knowledge of teachers and students regarding the practice of school social work intervention in Malaysia. A study was conducted using quantitative methods involving teachers and students in schools. Forty teachers and 45 students were involved in this study. This study shows that the level of knowledge among teachers and students on social work intervention remains low.
