Abstract :
Eskişehir has undergone a rapid change in urban spaces during the last decade. Paths of neoliberal policies are adopted by the state and investment groups. These paths have also paved the way for transformation of urban spaces in Eskişehir. It has been observed in Eskişehir in regard to Harvey‟s “urban entrepreneurialism” strategy by local governments, particularly in commodification of the city centre. Hence, erosion process of urban public space has been also underway in the last decade. Consumption spaces and entertainment centres are being constructed in this respect. “Image” and “brand” have been reproduced as the city is being transformed into a brand-city label. In this frame, constructed “city‟s culture” and “uniqueness” caused striking and substantial change in the urban space of the city. In the last decade, the number of middle class oriented consumption spaces proliferated and correspondingly consumption amount has been increased in Eskişehir. Successively, shopping malls, cafés, residences are being constructed in the former production spaces. Effects of deindustrialization accordingly gentrification processes have been visible more across spaces of Eskişehir. Consequently, Eskişehir has transformed into a city of foodatainment and entertainment centre for middle and upper classes that puts its mark on the recent transformation of the urban space in Eskişehir.
