THE PUBLISHING OF MALAY LITERATURE WORKS AT UKM PRESS

Penerbit UKM has always been regarded as one of the most respected scholarly publishers especially in the genre of academic books and journals. This article aims to assess the extent of the contribution and role of Penerbit UKM to the advancement of Malay Literature within the university context. This research was conducted by using 2011 Catalogue Book as a guide to retrieve further information. Data and information were classified in two categories; scholarly books and creative works. Data and information were separated into tables, charts and graphs to help facilitate the analyses. The findings tend to support that given the considerable forty years of its establishment, Penerbit UKM’s contribution is evidently not sufficient. Besides, there is an evident imbalance between the publishing of scholarly books and creative works. These finding are expected to optimize the role of Penerbit UKM as a university press in promoting Malay Literature through scholarly publications.
