Abstract :
Arjuna Wiwaha is a Javanese classical literary work that was written by Mpu Kanwa in the XI century. As a whole, Arjuna Wiwaha consists of the basic teachings for human beings to achieve higher degree of life perfection. The concept of cipta in Arjuna Wiwaha is analysed using the concept of Javanese philosophy which defines the ways in which one has to follow in order to achieve perfection of life in this world and the world hereafter, is called as ngudi kasampurnaan. As compared to the Greek philosophy, the teaching of the Javanese philosophy is not directly displayed in the simple logic of the spoken language. It is explained in a form of literary stories that comprise the whole perspectives of a human life based on the elements of cipta, rasa, and karsa of human beings. Cipta refers to the logical structure that is capable of gaining the values of truth, rasa refers to the ethical structure that is capable of attaining the values of perfection in life and karsa refers to the ethical structure that is capable of obtaining good values in life. The concept of cipta in Arjuna Wiwaha is divided into four components, which are faith in God, faith in the self, faith in the present world, and faith in world hereafter. The results of this study has shown that humans will not only discover the value from the concept of cipta in Arjuna Wiwaha but also can benefit from the concept which teaches gusti Allah orah sare (Allah never sleep), sangkan paran (the origins of everything in this world and how it shall end), sapa ingsun (the truth from oneself), aja dumeh (do not be arrogant or to act hastily), aja gampang kabujuk mring kumrincinge ringgit (do not be easily tempted by the material world), urip iku mung mampir ngombe (our life is just too brief), and sapa nandur bakal ngunduh (we reap what we sow).
