Abstract :
This study was carried out for the purpose of to investigate to what extent the new Knowledge of Life teaching program introduced in 2005-2006 school year has found reflections in the practice and the extent to which teachers use some methods and techniques in the new program. In the study, descriptive method is used and through teachers’ own statements, the methods and techniques used by them are examined. Moreover, Knowledge of Life course teacher manual, text books and work books are examined to determine which methods and techniques are included in them. Theuniverse of the study is made up by 140 teachers teaching first, second and thirdgraders in the primary schools of Sinop city and surrounding villages. Sampling of thestudy consists of 47 teachers randomly selected among the universe. In this study, aquestionnaire consisting of 20 five-point Likert type items was developed to determinethe methods and techniques used by the teachers in teaching and learning process andit was administered to the teachers in the sample. At the end of the study, it was foundthat the teachers do not sufficiently use the methods of great importance to involve thestudents in the process such as trips-observations, and exploration.
