English, being an international medium of communication, is highlyvalued in Pakistan. It is being taught as a secondary language in allthe schools of Pakistan from class one onward. The performance oflearners in English is directly connected with teaching techniques. Thebasic objective of this study was the analysis of impact of teachingtechniques on the performance of learners. The population of the studywas all the teachers and students of Pakistan, while the accesspopulation was delimited to teachers and students of Hyderabad. Asample of 535 students and 26 teachers was selected from accesspopulation through random stratified sampling technique. The datawere collected through survey method and questionnaire instrument. Itwas found that there was very strong positive correlation betweenteaching techniques and performance of learners in English. Nosignificant difference was found in the mean scores between studentsand teachers regarding teaching techniques. However, the studentsand teachers were not satisfied with teaching techniques. Teachingtechniques employed by teachers were very old, conventional andineffective. There was no common use of modern technology and AVaids like computers in teaching. Less trained teachers, having noaccess to AV aids, used only traditional methods in classroomteaching. Less focus was given on teaching of reading but moreemphasis was given on the completion of course from examinationpoint of view. Consequently, students took less interest in readingprocess. The suggestions of the study are presented at the end of thispaper.
