Abstract :
In recent years a marked and significant change has taken place in the curriculum, training and assessment of MS/MD degrees programs conducted by various medical universities. Training program is more structured now and there is a clear shift towards competency based curriculum. Introduction of log book, CBDs and developing portfolios are incorporated in the training. Examinations and assessments are more structured; objective and task oriented and more importantly held on scheduled time following the university calendar. But still there is a lot of space for improvement. Trainers still follow a mixed strategy of apprenticeship, process and competency based models to train their residents and there is no universal agreement In this editorial a comparison all three models is highlighted and may present a baseline for the medical educationist to put forward a universal curriculum for training in MS/MD university degree programs.
