Abstract :
Iliad, one of the two famous epics of the Aegean poet Homeros, narrates the historic story of Troy. Just like Homeros hand-carved his epics, being a type of verbal literature anonymously created by the people in result of remarkable or heroic incidences, it took its deserved place in plastic arts in different means. One of the renown names of contemporary ceramic art, Irfan Aydın has been revitalising this epic in his artworks of porcelain. Being involved from the beginning of the archeological excavations for the Apollon Smintheus Holy Temple (Smitheion), the artist located the ancient characters and historic places he inspired into the centre of his artwork. The present study aims at investigating the influence of archaeological artefacts and multidisciplinary aspects inherited from archaeological excavations on contemporary ceramics artists by means of Irfan Aydın and his art.
