Abstract :
Petrignani Palace in Amelia stands on Marconi Square with its impressive facade. The palace is an interesting example of late-Renaissance style construction. By the will of Bartolomeo Petrignani, the architect Ottaviano Mascarino started construction of the palace. However, the project was completed thanks to the funding from Bartolomeo’s brother Fantino Petrignani, who was the archbishop of Cosenza and the future cardinal in Papal State, and one of the protectors of the young Caravaggio. The stylistic character of the frescoes and the sequence of the interior decorations are attributed to Tarquinio Racani, who, as the painter of the city, made the frescoes of other palaces and churches in Amelia. The fresco map of Istanbul is in the Constantinus and Maxentius Room of the Petrignani Palace. The map of Istanbul, the capital city of the Muslim world of the time, stands above the door of the room and against the fresco map of Prague, the capital city of the Christian world of the time.
