LANDSCAPE REVIEWS IN TURKISH PHOTOGRAPH

Landscape photography exists not only with sufficient technical equipment but also concerns with a suitable climate, capturing ability for the light and shadow that strengthen the content and tend to overcome physcial difficulties by the photographer. The term of landscape photography has defined as a reference during the pioneer photographer Timothy O Sullivan and his friends project of exploring the west of the USA (Great Surveys Project 1867-1871). Landscape photography at its best becomes a fundamental expression of a visual formation with Ansel Adam s upgraded zone system. The article analyses the development process of nature photography in Ottoman and Republic era of the Turks that also compares with the contemporary samples in terms of historical facts. In composition of Othmar Pfherschy s Anatolian views, Sıtkı Fırat s colour based photographs, İbrahim Demirel s graphical content and Reha Akçakaya s tranformal meanings on an infra-red film basis, can be accepted as important samples of the issued category. Ahmet Elhan s serie of ‘İkiler’ (Twos) and Serkan Taycan s Kabuk (Tumulus) works are selected for the counterparts of the contemporary examples. As a result of this study it can be determined that turkish nature photography has had the pioneer specimens however it has not been enough studies produced recently.
