Abstract :
Manuals hod a significant place in second and / or foreign language teaching because they have having a great area of utilization in both formal and non-formal education. The approach (systematic or accidental, methodical and empirical) for the design of books is likely effective to influence the success of educational activities conducted. In particular, being aware of what sort of approaches/methodes are taught for the skils such as writing and speaking the boundaries of wich are relatively hard to determine may lead to develop an approach in a more concious way. For this purpose, 16 books (four sets) written aiming to teach teach Turkish, French and English as a second or foreign language, were examined via scanning in terms of having obvious speech act, realisation areas and forms. It was figured out that textbooks by and large possess conciousness, however they have significant differences in terms of implementation approaches.
