  • Abstract
Cytomegalovirus (CMV), the most important infectious complication to affect recipients of kidney transplants, is a significant cause of morbidity and mortality. [1] In the absence of any preventative therapy, CMV infection occurs in approximately 30-75% of transplant recipients, with an incidence of CMV disease of between 8 and 80%, depending on the type of transplantation, immunosuppression and, most importantly, the donor/recipient (D/R) CMV serostatus.
