Abstract :
The purpose of this study was to investigate language learning strategies employed by high school students with respect to gender, classroom level, high school type, mother’s and father’s education level, and monthly economic income level. The study was carried out in the city centre of Nigde province from six elementary schools. Totally 352 high school students, selected according to the purposeful sampling method participated in the study. The “survey method” was adopted in the research. In accordance with the purpose of the study, percentage, mean, standard deviation, independent samples t-test, ANOVA (variance) and Tukey-HSD tests were employed in the study in order to examine the data obtained in terms ofsome variables. “Strategy Inventory for Language Learning” was used in order to collect data for the study. For the statistical analyses SPSS 17.0 was used. According to findings of the study in general, it was seen that high school students participated in the study used language learning strategies at a “moderate” level. It was also concluded that students’ language learning strategies statistically differed in relation to gender, classroom level, school type, mother’s and father’s education level, and monthly economic income level variables in the study.
