Abstract :
Idiom is a group of words or an expression that cannot be translated literally; proverb is a general truth about life that may have been passed on orally. Proverbs are little stories with a moral message; idioms are just a few words used to express a bigger idea. Proverbs and idioms are very important for our language. They contain lifestyles, traditions, beliefs, and many more features of Turkish communities. So far, many studies have been made on proverbs and idioms in Turkish. Asst. Assoc. Dr. Necmi Akyalçın, who is a member of Department of Turkish Language and Literature at ÇOMÜ, published two books in 2012 with the titles “Türkçemizin Anlamsal Zenginlikleri DEYİMLERİMİZ” and “Türkçemizin İncileri ATASÖZLERİMİZ- Tanıklı Sözlük” for saying something different than the previous studies about proverbs and idioms. In this article we will try to evaluate these books in terms of academic criteria.
