THE ROLE OF NEW NEW MEDIA IN STRENGTHENING UNITY AMONG YOUTH: AN EARLY OBSERVATION

Youths who are an important asset of the country play a significant role as successors in strengthening the racial unity in Malaysia. As future leaders who will inherit and continue the country s independence, it is essential that the youths uphold the racial unity that based on Social Contract which has existed for so long. It is not only maintaining its value but also its meaning and significance as well as providing the spirit of prolongation in the years to come. Apart from that, it is important that the youths strengthen their identity and patriotism in line with the advancement of technology in the country. This is especially so with the influx of new new media which are seen as giving more adverse effects to the youths. Thus, affects the unity that has been secured among the youths in Malaysia. Consequently, appropriate measures should be implemented to ensure the new media such as Facebook and Twitter, as well as other social networks can play a significant role in preserving unity among the youths in this country. This paper looks into the role that can be generated by the new new media in achieving this notion, apart from the hope in mapping the future of the youths which is aligned with the advancement of technology in our country.
