Abstract
Errors occured towards students in learning French language. These errors will intimidate the empowering the language process as it affects the students’ gramatic and semantic mastery process. Thus, this study aism to analyse the spelling errors in essay of students who is learning French language as foreign language. Sampels were 15 essays length between 250-400 words written by Third level students. Sampels analysis are done quantitative and qualitatively by applying the spelling errors classification by Rimoff Heift (2008). Results from this research have identified 77 errors done by the students, including 22 phonological errors, 33 morphological errors and 22 lexical error. Result also finds, these errors occured due to phonological confusion, over-generalisation from English language and misunderstanding of French language grammar rules, especially involving past tense and passive form.
