INSTAGRAM USAGE AMONG STUDENTS OF UNIVERSITI PUTRA MALAYSIA

This study focuses on Instagram captions used among students at the Faculty of Modern Languages and Communication, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). The objectives of this paper were to identify and describe the usage of Instagram captions to one’s own account, comment column and other users’ accounts. A total of 100 students of various races, programs and years of study were selected. The instruments consist of a set of questionnaires with 15 items and also interview. Data were analyzed by using percentage. The results of the study showed that the usage of Instagram on one’s own account was not encouraging because majority of the students did not have time to update their accounts due to the fact that they were busy with study. Therefore, they only surfed in order to view other users’ accounts by reading and replying to comments whenever they had free time and this way they indirectly communicate with other users in cyberspace. Future research will focus on other social networking sites.
