Abstract :
In this study, the effectiveness of a training programme to identify talented students on class teachers in general education schools was investigated and the opinions of teachers regarding strengths and limitations of the training programme were examined. The research was maintained in the mixed type design which included experimental and descriptive methods. The practice of the research was managed with 29 voluntary teachers in total, 14 of whom were in the experiment group and 15 of whom were in the control group. An education of 3 hours during three successive days and 9 hours in total was carried out on the participants. The practised program was prepared according to Taba model. At the end of the study, it was found that there is a significant difference between the scores before the practice and after the practice of the teachers taking part in the gorup in which the experiment was performed on (z=3.243, p .05, d=.87). A significant difference could not be found between pretest-posttest scores of the control group teachers. Also, teachers’ views concerning the strengths and limitations of the practice were determined. Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test and Mann Whitney U Test were used in the analysis of the quantitative data and descriptive method was used in the analysis of qualitative data.
