Abstract :
The aim of this study was to determine the level of awareness of the Turkish coaches on Modern Olympic Games. 283 coaches, 249 male and 34 female working at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, coaching various sports branches age between 21-60 participated in this study. Participants were asked 49 questions to determine their Olympic awareness along with their demographics and vocational background. A five point Likert type awareness score scale was used. T test was used to determine the differences between the two groups and One-Way Anova Test was used to compare the parameters between groups of two or more. Post Hoc Scheffe test was used to determine which means differ. The relationship between the dependent and independent variables were tested with Pearson correlation analysis. There was no statistically significant difference among the scores according to the age, sex and being a BESYO graduate variables. The results of Anova test used to determine whether there was a significant difference between the Olympic awareness means scores with regard to being a certified player variable yield a statistically significant difference between the mean scores of groups. (F=3,682; p=0,026 0,05). Post Hoc Scheffe test was used to determine which means differ. The Olympic awareness means scores of players who were certified and who are still certified were higher than the Olympic awareness scores (9,105±2,132) of those who were not certified. As a result, the Olympic awareness scores of Turkish coaches were found medium, and those who work in East and Southeast Anatolia regions have lower scores compared to other regions.
