Abstract :
The aim of this study was to examine the psychometric properties of Turkish version of the Parent- Initiated Motivational Climate Questionnaire-2 (PIMCQ-2) which was developed by White and Duda (1993). The questionnaire was administered to 118 female and 184 male, totally 302 (Mage=15.05 ± 1.78 years) adolescent athletes from different sports. PIMCQ-2 has 18 items that are repeated twice to record sport and exercise participants’ perceptions of the motivational climate created by their mother and father. All participants completed the questionnaire for both their mother and father. Principle Component Factor Analysis with Varimax rotation for testing validity of PIMCQ-2 supported 3 factor structures. The results of factor analysis revealed that 18 items of PIMCQ-2 explained 61 % of variance for mother initiated motivational climate and 59 % for father initiated climate. The factor loadings of items ranged from 0.52 to 0.90 for all subscales of mother formand ranged from 0.49 to 0.89 for all subscales of father form. Confirmatory factor analysis results revealed that goodness of fit index values of inventory were at acceptable level. The reliability of the questionnaire was determined by Cronbach alpha coefficient. Internal consistency coefficients of subscales of mother initiated motivational climate ranged from 0.68 (Worry Conducive Climate) to 0.95 (Learning and Enjoyment Climate). These values ranged from0.62 (Success Without Effort) to 0.94 (Learning and Enjoyment Climate) for father initiated climate. The results showed that PIMCQ-2can be used to determine Turkish adolescent athletes’ perceptions of motivational climates created by their parents.
