Abstract :
In this study, social security rights, economic shortages, and health problems of amateur sportsmen in Turkey have been tried to be identified. In this end, current Turkish laws and literature were analyzed regarding the amateur status of sportsmen, the rights they were awarded or deprived of were determined. It has been concluded that sportsmen who are interested in amateur sports have no social security rights, and unfortunately amateur sportsmen who perform sports as a job cannot earn enough to make a living, and there are not any compulsory laws in this regard. In this study, it can be concluded that according to general social insurance provisions, amateur sportsmen who are under 18 are in the general health insurance system and sportsmen who took part in Europe tournaments have right to retire after they are 40 years old, but the other sportsmen have not any social insurances.
