Abstract :
The Conference of Lausanne started in Lausanne, Switzerland in 1922. The conference was interrupted between 4 February and 22 April 1923 and ended in 24 July 1923 as the peace treaty signed. Turkey, Greece, Romania, Serbia and the Allies (Great Britain, France, Italy and Japan) were the main participants of the conference whereas the U.S. and the Russia attended to the conference as observes. In addition to these countries, Bulgaria, Belgium and Portugal attended to the conference to resolve the issues related to them. The Conference of Lausanne was a diplomatic tool for Turkey in order to achieve National Pact (Misak-i Milli) and pursue the War of Independence diplomatically. On the other hand, the Allies tried to use the conference as a diplomatic platform where they could pursue their national interests. The main expectation of the societies of the both parties was to end the devastating war as soon as possible and live in a peaceful environment again. However, the governments of both parties tried to fulfill their governmental policies during the conference by using propaganda and diplomatic tools since they had to protect their national interests. During the Conference of Lausanne, parties used press effectively to create public opinion. By using press, parties tried to influence society and participants who attended to the conference.
