Abstract :
The negotiations of Lausanne Peace Treaty was broken down on 4 February 1923 because the French and the Italians wanted to continue their juridical and economic advantages on Turkey and insisted upon this issue. Under those circumstances, Ismet Pasha and the accompanying committee decided to return home and left Lausanne on 7 February 1923. As Ismet Pasha wanted to come to Turkey by using the route of Bucharest-Constanza, a boat called Gülcemal was allocated by the government of Turkish Grand National Assembly in order to welcome and take the committee from Constanza. ten journalists from Istanbul press who wanted to follow the latest developments in the Lausanne Peace Treaty and get information from Ismet Pasha in person also attended that journey. However, as the season was winter and the roads were covered with snow, the committee arrived at Constanza with an unexpected delay. Mr. Velid, one of the journalists among the committee members, who was the ovvner and the lead editor of the journal called Tevhid-i Efkâr (The Unity of Ideas), wrote out on the way home about the Constanza journey, the waiting period for six days, his interviews with Ismet Pasha and his impressions. Those notes that presented the precision of the period with a journalist perspective are an evaluation of the politics of Lausanne taking into consideration of Ismet Pasha as the responsible statesman of Turkey s future.
