MİLLİ EĞİTİM BAKANLIĞI’NIN YETKİVE UYGULAMALARI ÇERÇEVESİNDEDERS KİTAPLARI (1950-1960)

Various laws and regulations about the textbooks were issued from thefoundation of the Republic. These were put into practice in the charge of theMinistry of National Education. Authorities and responsibilities of the Ministry of National Education about thetextbooks were reorganized by the law enacted on 6th June 1949. The textbooks,which were to be instructed in primary and secondary education, were to bedetermined by this law. By this law, the authority of publishing the textbooks,choosing the books released for free publishing and detecting the qualities and saleprices of the textbooks was given to the Ministry of National Education. TheMinistry was to have the right of changing the textbooks and having them writtenand published if it had been necessary.The list of the textbooks determined to be instructed by the Ministry of NationalEducation was issued within the circular in the bulletins of communiques at everybeginning of school years. Some information was given about the name and theauthor of the textbook, the printing house, sale price of the textbook and the placesin which the textbooks were sold in the lists regulated for the primary and secondaryschools.In this paper, the practices between 1950-1960 are going to be explained bygiving examples from primarily high school curriculums and textbooks.
