Abstract :
The Peace Corps Volunteers was founded in 1961 as a legal institute of the USA The aims of the Peace Corps Volunteers are expressed as to introduce the USA to the other countries, to know them better and to provide underdeveloped countries qualified workforce in social and economic areas Also, the USA used the Peace Corps Organization as an unarmed force against Soviet Russia during the Cold War period The Peace Corps first came to Turkey by an agreement between the USA and Turkey in 1962 Later on, activities of the Peace Corps were aborted owing to negative social and political reactions and the Peace Corps didn’t come to Turkey after 1971 According to official statistics, 1460 peace volunteers took part in various programs such as education, health, social development, rural development in various regions, province, boroughs and villages of Turkey In this study, the Peace Corps Volunteers’ activities, social reactions against them in Turkey and their departure from Turkey were discussed
