  • Abstract
    Demirci (smith) Mehmet Efe served as the commander of Aydın front during the War of Independence. Demirci Mehmet Efe carried on this duty till the date on which the forces under his command were liquidated and a regular army was constituted. Demirci Mehmet Efe, who was kept under custody until the independence of İzmir, moved to Nazilli -which was his hometown- after this date. Demirci Mehmet Efe who continued his life like an ordinary citizen after that time was intended to be killed in Nazilli. For this reason, he had to move from Nazilli to İzmir; however, he was assassinated in İzmir. Demirci Mehmet Efe who was wounded in this attempt had to ask Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk for help. The second event that Demirci Mehmet Efe -who was able to keep alive after these assassination attempts- experienced was the Afyon case sued against him. This case was finalized in favor of Demirci Mehmet Efe. Demirci Mehmet Efe, who kept himself away from politics during his life, passed away on 5^th of Febraury 1961 in Nazilli; and he was buried with a military ceremony.
