Abstract :
After the decision of the Turkish Parliament (TBMM) to call for elections in 1923, studies for the foundation of Women’s Public Party gained speed and the foundation was announced on June 15, 1923, under the leadership of Nezihe Muhittin. Two months before the foundation of the party, on April 3, 1923, enfranchisement of women had been a matter of dispute in the parliament. The city of Bolu’s deputy Tunalı Hilmi Bey’s words that accused other members of the parliament of not giving enfranchisement to women had fueled the dispute. Members of the parliament had cruelly impeded the speech of Tunalı Hilmi Bey, showing that they had not had tolerance even for the discussion of this topic. In this study, by analyzing the most influential comics of the period, namely, Akbaba, Kelebek, Zümrüdü Anka and Güleryüz, how enfranchisement of women was reflected in the comics of the era has been considered within the conditions and surroundings of the year 1923. At the same time, the perspective of these comics towards the foundation of Women’s Public Party is put forward.
