THE HERITAGE FROM THE OTTOMAN STATE TO THE REPUBLIC: SULTANSUYU STUDFARM

Sultansuyu Studfarm was founded as a farm under the name of Sultansuyu Çiftlikatı. It was abolished by the declaration of the Constitution and transferred to the Treasury of Finance, and in 1928 it was again established as Studfarm. The studfarm is located on 22 kilometres west of Malatya andthere is 7.5 km of distance between the town Arga and the studfarm. It is 1070 meters above sea level.Sultansuyu Studfarm has an important position in South and southeastern cities in term of repairing the animal sand raising royal- bloodbrood. The institution was activated with the council of ministers’ decision in 1928 and it was assigned to thestudfarm with the field, building and out building of Sultansuyu.The basic duty of the studfarm in the historical process is toraise the broods for breeding of the horses which are found across a large area from Malatya to Iraq, Syria and Caucasia borders, and of millions of cattles. As the studfarm is in the middle of Turkey, it was accepted by the high officials of war as the meeting point of animal raising institutions. In afterdays, the foal farm which is the need of this wide animal raising region, will be founder the administration of this institution.In order to complete the store equipment and procure the activity of this studfarm in short time, which was founded in order to realize important military and economic aims, the management of the studfarm with it sown income was found appropriate. The management style of the farm was determined in 1930 withthelaw number of 1678. In 1956, part of the Studfarm estata was abandoned to the National Defense Forces of Erhaç Airport.
