Abstract :
Turkish press is an important element for perceiving foreign politics and the Turkish-American alliance in public opinion. In accordance with Turkey-United States (US) relations in 1950s, which developed positively, 1960s has a critical role. That is, while the power in Turkey was changing with a coup, United States entered a process of eleceting 35th president of US. Possible changes in the foreign policy of US as a result of the presidential election were also of great importance in terms of the future of Turkish-American relations. For this reason, the Turkish press closely followed the presidential election process to be held on November 8, 1960 in the United States, attaching great importance to these elections. As a matter of fact, in the Turkish press, Kennedy was frequently mentioned during his presidency (1961-1963) especially with his rhetoric about foreign policy, and evaluations about the issue. For this reason, it would be appropriate to analyze the news and articles published in the periodicals to understand the process of the presidential election in the US and its consequences in the Turkish public opinion. In this study, Turkish-American relations in Kennedy’s presidency will be tried to be evaluated through the Turkish Press. However, the fact that the colorful personality and discourse of Kennedy, unlike the other American presidents, has its influence on the Turkish press and that the press has attributed such significance to Kennedy whether or not Turkish-American relations have any effect.is one of the issues to be examined.
