Abstract :
This paper deals with the biological character of human, mutilation of the human body due to cultural grounds and the circumcision in Söğüt as an example of mutilation. Human, as a biological being, has measurable, visible (phenotype) and genetic features. Firstly, these features will be summarized in terms of Biological Anthropology. Subsequently, by focusing on the mutilation of the human body due to cultural grounds, the definition of the concept and the included mutilation will be reviewed from different perspectives. The mutilated body parts, characters who take place in the mutilation process, operation of the judgment mechanism, the spread and changing tendency of the mutilation practice will also be considered. Finally, circumcision practices in Söğüt (center), Bilecik, will be illustrated. Following the explanation of the method of study, circumcision related activities that take place before and after the practice, will be presented under the light of quantitative data. The importance of the certain points regarding the research method will also be demonstrated, and the three main titles will be presented as complementary parts.
