The effects of topical iodine containing antiseptics on thyroidal status of preterm versus term babies

I would like to comment on the interesting studyby Hudaoglu et all on the effects of topical iodinecontaining antiseptics on the thyroidal status of pretermversus term babies.First, the use of iodinated skin disinfectants inthe perinatal period can result in a significant iodineoverload of preterm and transient hyporhyroxinernia.?Hudaoglu et ai addressed in their study that povidoneiodine(PI) might cause transient hypothyroxinemiain preterm babies ( 30 weeks gestational age, 1.5 kg)and that might be the reason for behavioral problemsobserved later in these children.
