Abstract :
Our study consists of a case report introducing the dental and skeletal effects of a new device for upper molar distalization. Dentally, the patient presented bilateral Angle class II molar relationship. Second upper molars were erupted and presented lower dental arch with minor crowding. Our distalization appliance was composed of 2 molar bands and a modified Nance button anchored of a mini screw at the palatal side. From the buccal side ; appliance consists of a lever arm, a mini screw placed between second premolar and first mola and a closed coil spring . Ni-Tİ coil spring (2 cm activated between palatal tube and the adjustable screw on the palatal bar and 200 gr of distal force was applied to the Class II first molar from the palatal side. A closed coil spring was placed in between the buccal mini screw and the helix on the lever arm, by this way 150 gr of distal force was applied to the Class II first molar from the buccal side. 5 months later Class I molar relationship was maintained on each side. Lateral cephalograms were taken and analyzed before and after the distalization. The results showed that molars were distalized bodily, and the protrusion of maxillary incisors was insignificant. In conclusion the newly developed device was very effective to distalize maxillary molars with no patient cooperation.
