Abstract :
Peripheral ossifying fibroma represents a reactive benign lesion frequently occurring in anterior parts of jaws of young females exclusively on gingiva. A 32-year old woman referred to our peridontology clinic at Ankara University Faculty of Dentistry with a complaint of swollen gingiva. Her medical history and extraoral examination were insignificant. The patient stated that the lesion appeared one month ago and was gradually enlarging. Our intraoral examination revealed a swollen lesion on the papilla of teeth number 21-22. The periodontal status was mild gingivitis with calcified depositions on the lingual site of mandibular incisors. After thoroughly debridment of the dentition, under local anesthesia the lesion with the diamensions of 0.7x0.8x0.6 cm was completely excised includingthe underlying periosteum and submitted for histological analysis. Histopat-hological examination of this tissue suggested that it was a peripheral ossifying fibroma. We recorded no recurrence on her postoperative sixth month visit. Further visits considering the follow up of recurrence is necessary.
