Abstract :
The purpose of this study is to examine teacher candidates’ motivation for social media use and learning styles. The survey method was used for this research. The study group consists of 302 teacher candidates who attended the pedagogical certification programme at a state university during the spring semester in 2014-2015 academic calendars. The data collection tool consists of three parts: demographic questions and items dealing with teacher candidates’ motivation for social media use and learning styles. The research data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Kruskal-Wallis H test, Mann-Whitney U test, and Chi-square. Results showed that social media usage motivation and learning styles do not differ significantly according to the gender, age, marital status, and Internet usage per week. On the other hand, there was a significant difference both for the whole scale and for two subscales, namely, self-expression and social interaction, according to the learning styles.
