Abstract :
In this study, cleaning efficiency of sugar beet unloading, cleaning and loading machine and caused amount of mechanical injuries on beet surface were searched. For this reason, unloaded and cleaned beets by the machine were placed into a silo. Interior and exterior quality value changes of the beet samples taken from the silo for fifteenth day’s interval were examined depending on the silo duration. The external quality values examined in the research were root dimension, root and tail breakages, cracks, surface injuries, weight losses, and the interior quality values were polarization, invert sugar and refined sugar yield. The study reveals that external quality values such as crack amount was 2.3 times (n.s.), surface damage amount 4 times, root breakages at the rate of 30 % (p 0.05) and depending on silo duration weight losses increase. Furthermore, invert sugar values increase (p 0.01), whereas polarization and refined sugar yield values decrease (p 0.01) as internal quality values in machinery-processed sugar beets, depending on silo duration.
