Abstract :
Beet cyst nematode (Heteredora schachtii Smidth), starting to be a problem from 1995 onwards, spread increasingly and became more severe at the beginning of 2000s due to be not implemented hardly a four year crop rotation in Turkey. For sustainable sugar beet cultivation, it is necessary to determine infested fields by beet cyst nematode to take precautions against the pest. In this study, it was aimed to assessment the achievement of tolerant sugar beet genotypes to nema-tode by determining the outbreak of beet cyst nematode and investigating the levels of yield and quality of tolerant lines in infested fields have a different geographic conditions in 2002-2013. Beet cyst nematode was determined in the areas of 18444 ha in the village of 137 belong to 18 sugar factories in Turkey during the study. Also, the results of the trials carried out in the infested fields revealed that the tolerant genotypes suppressed the increasing of beet cyst nem-atode population 2 to 10 times until the end of growing season and increased in the root yield of 40-76% and sugar yield of 35-76%. According to the results, tolerant varieties must be sown in infested fields in the areas where is not imple-menting at least a four year crop rotation for sustainable sugar beet cultivation.
