Abstract :
This study was conducted to determine affects partial root–zone irrigation on yield and irrigation water use of sugar beet crop. In this regard, application of 100 % irrigation water requirement of plant, full Irrigation, (FI or as control treatment), and 50% application of FI by using alternative (APRD) and fixed partial root drying (FPRD) irrigation treatments were examined. Irrigation was started at 35-40% water depletion from available water capacity of soil through the crop root zone depth and other irrigations were performed in accordance of same principle. The results showed that the highest root and white sugar yields were obtained from irrigation application of 100% irrigation water requirement of plant, FI, and APRD treatment resulted the highest sugar rate or content. In examined converted root yield of treatments according to standard 16% sugar rate, the yield reductions for APRD and FPRD were 16.3% and 20.5%, respec-tively by comparison to FI treatment. Present study results showed that 50% def-icit irrigation can be performed by APRD technique for sugar beet crop in agri-cultural drought regions having water shortage.
