Abstract :
Garment sector is in cooperation with a wide network of suppliers due to the nature of it. The textile sector which is the main supplier of garment sector is one of the most powerful manufacturing sector of Turkey from the point of the share of national income, high potential of export and employment. Therefore the selection of suitable suppliers in the sector where is an intense competition is an important decision problem for the garment enterprises. In this respect the decretive of the weights and criteria that affect the determination of decision-making processes and the realization of the most suitable supplier selection with the scientific method will affect the garment enterprises’ competitiveness based on cost and quality positively. The process of the supplier selection has to be defined by not just a single variable or a single criterion also a large number of criteria and their joint effects because of taking into account many evaluation criteria of this process. Thus, supplier selection problem can be studied as a problem of Multi-Attribute Decision Making. Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), one of the the Multi-Attribute Decision Making Methods, is recognized as an effective method in the solution of complex decision problems such as the choice of suppliers because of considering both quantitative and qualitative factors for the best option as well as and ease of use. In this context, the purpose of this study is to solve the problem of choosing the most suitable supplier with AHP method for fabric raw material which is the largest input and cost factor in the production of a company operating in the garment industry in Konya. Three people, responsible for purchasing in the business were consulted as decision-makers. The criteria and alternatives constituting the hierarchical structure were evaluated by paired comparison decision matrix according to Saaty s 1-9 importance scale. It has been reached a single number for each comparison by the geometric means of results obtained from study. The cost has been identified as the most important main criteria in consequence of analyzes through Expert Choice 11.5 program. The most important sub-criteria are defined as geographical location in terms of delivering, “negotiatiability” in terms of flexibility, internal costs in terms of cost-effective, on time delivery percentage in terms of quality, and feeling of trust in terms of reliability. Subsequent to the determination of the weights of the criteria and alternative suppliers are listed and the selection of the most appropriate suppliers are made.
