Abstract :
Motivation can be defined as all the emotions, opinions and drives that prompt people and lead them to work and produce. In the globalizing world, operations must direct their employees in accordance with their purposes in order to outcompete their opponents and earn a lot. Especially in developing countries such as Turkey, in order to take more advantage of employees’ potentials, the issue of motivation has been even more critical. It is a difficult task to motivate and prompt employees in operations. To do this, managers must develop their skills in multiple perspectives and strive a lot most of the time. Success of an operation depends on the eager work of employees for organizational objectives and their using knowledge, capabilities and power fully. More and more operations, day by day, are getting profitable results by practising their management theories. At this point, the biggest profit of an operation is the increase in its success. A skilled manager who is able to motivate and orientate his employees can considerably increase the success of the operation through exploiting human resources to the best advantage without increasing the costs. Given that the main purpose of operations is to make profit and increase the rates of profit, decisions to be made by the operational management must be in this direction. The Theory of Constraints means determining and managing the constraints that prevent operations from reaching their objectives. Any factor that hinders an operation’s reaching objectives regarding profit making can be regarded as a constraint. Thus, the Theory of Constraints is an approach that can help operation managers in decision making process. One of the most essential themes that guides businesses and determines their success is the motivation of employees. Researchers have shown that businesses that motivate their employees have a higher chance of success when compared to those that don t. In this study, the effect of motivation on the success of a business has been investigated by doing the motivation analysis of the employees in an industrial business operating in PVC sector. Theory of constraints puts forward the idea that there is a constraint in each system and that this constraints has to be removed for the success of the system. Considering this approach, in the first place it is aimed to determine the motivation constraint factor that restricts employees motivation and adversely affects the success of the business and afterwards submit it to the management for improvement.
