Abstract :
Tourism sector which makes significant contributions to development of many countries with its social and economic dimensions ranks among the fastest growing sectors on international scale. The development process of the sector on international scale leaves the sector and other business in this sector vulnerable to a larger global risks series.Besides this, tourism demand has an extremely responsive framework for political developments which tarnish the regions’image that that welcome tourists; economic crisis which retrench income to be separated for travelling and events such as natural disasters, epidemics, terror, war which threatens tourist consumer’s security of life and property. Political instability that occurred in any part of the world or wars that broke would lessen travel demands at significant scales in other parts of the world.Developments in technological, economic, political and socio-cultural domains and variety and augmentation in requests and needs of the society that occurred subject to these developments influence tourism businesses deeply.Businesses, which cannot cope up with all these events and developments by anticipating them, which cannot organise the interaction between outer frame consistency and sub-systems that make inner frame properly, would quite often encounter with the crises. Thus, strategic management and crisis management for abolishment or limitation of the effects of developments which is called crisis are becoming the essential capability for both tourism destination managers and business managers. It is observed that although crisis management and strategic management applications have the potential of integrating in a way to synergise, they are evaluated as different domains from each other in management applications. However, inclusion of crisis management approach to strategic management process would be helpful of lessening the effects of the possible crisis situations or the businesses’ preventing of crisis developments. Thus necessary precautions will be taken against a situation which could threat businesses’ strategic objectives.Integration of strategic management and crisis management applications have the potential of creating synergy effect. It is clear that it would be more advantageous for strategic management of businesses to add preventive/protective capabilities of crisis management to strategic management process. Yet in today’s tourism market where the competition goes on in a drastic way, this power that is in strategic management process which focuses on evaluation, application and forming of efficient competitive strategies cannot be evaluated in an adequate way now. However, a new integrated strategic crisis management approach which incorporates crisis management activities in strategic management process would sustain businesses’ obtaining their desired strategic objectives in a more efficient way.In this context, a new integrated strategic crisis management process framework which includes crisis management activities into the process and enlarges the borders of the strategic management process will be discussed after providing information about strategic management process and crisis management approaches which form the basis of holistic framework in this study.
