Abstract :
When looked at the performance appraisal literatüre in about the last ten years, it is seen that it has gone through a very fast development process and that using performance appraisal ways different from each other has become common in both state and private institutions. Performance evaluation is one of the important tools of human resource management. The evaluation of the employees in both private and olso public sector is an important managerial process for the employee and the organization. Nowadays performance evaluation systems are used in almost every business which has been institutionalized. However, each company has to apply different systems for performance evaluation. 360 degree performance evaluation process is foremost of these systems in terms of the evaluation of human resources. 360 degree performance evaluation system is a systematic evaluation which occurs the stage of goal setting, outcome evaluation, feedback and reward and used in organizations to ensure their potential in order to get better results from the employees. It helps employees to be aware of what has been expected from them and what should they have done to achieve the determinated goals. At the same time it provides important storeys to the employees to realize their current situations, their trainings and development needs to establish a better communication with their superiors. In terms of managers it provides to give constructive and unprejudiced feedbacks to the employess in order to plan their professional development more rationally and enables the integration of business objectives with the employees. Organizations are needs high performing employees to survive and achieve success in this increasing competitive conditions. The most important feature that distinguishes 360 degree performance evaluation system from other systems is while determining the performance of an employee, it provides datas from the environment that the employees interacts and communicates due to his/her duty. However, high performance can only be obtained from motivated employees. For this reason, for the motivation of individuals, their performance should be evaluated and used in organizational practices. In this study, 360 degree performance evaluation system which is one of the controversial and up to date issues of human resources applications was investigated comprehensively and theoretically in details and the importance of performance appraisal studies was emphesized for businesses. Accordingly, giving place to its influence in the system, its features and where it is more successful have been studied and then the advantages and potential disadvantages brought by this performance system were demonstrated.
