Abstract :
The main purpose of the present study is to determine the effects of Curriculum of Education of Values on 6 years-old preschool children’s display of these values in their behaviors and identify teachers’ opinions in terms of the training they had and its applications they experienced/conducted. Two different methods were used in the study. The usage of pre-test and post-test model with control group to determine the effectiveness of the education of values curriculum, and case study design of the qualitative research method to analyze teachers’ opinions. 200 teachers from Ankara wanted to have the training and participated voluntarily. They applied the program in their classrooms. Within the context of the project the students in 4 teachers’ classes formed the pilot group of the project. Students of 4 other teachers who were in the same school with the experimental teacher group, didn’t take any training and didn’t apply the program in their classrooms participated as the control group. There were 50 children in the experimental group and 46 in the control group. The teachers assessed the program and the education process with the project evaluation form( N=72). To collect the experimental data of the present study, the Value in Behavior Questionnaire and Personal Information Form developed by Gür (2013) are used. In order to evaluate teachers’ opinions regarding the program they applied and the training they had, Teacher’s Project Evaluation Form which was developed by the researcher is used.Curriculum of Education of Values: The program developed by Şirin, Şafak, Yuvacı, Bayrak and Öztürk. While Curriculum of Education of Values was being developed Piaget, Vygotsky, Skinner, Gardner and Bloom’s education approaches were used as base. Within the context of the program the following topics were studied; Love, Friendship, Respect, Empathy, Responsibility, Honesty, Kindness Behaviors and Trust. Every month one topic is studied. The process for each was; Definition, Behavior Description, Feeling the Need for it, Being a Model, Fostering the Behavior, Reinforcing with Repetition, Providing Family Training and Participation, Socializing and Social Projects that are Applied, Recording, Going Back Process.In terms of the effectiveness of the Curriculum of Education of Values, the quantitative data regarding the differences between the groups analyzed via independent and dependent t-test. Regarding teachers’ opinions the data were analyzed by making use of f and % ranges, SPSS 16.0 version was used for this. According to the results of the present study, Curriculum of Education of Values was effective on 6 years-old children’s display of the values in their behaviors and identifying teachers’ opinions in terms of the training they had and its applications they experienced/conducted. Teachers thought the program was comprehensive and told that they found it helpful both for themselves and for their students in terms of having positive gain.
