Abstract :
In this study, considering the interaction between literature and media disciplines, the specific review and criticism techniques will be discussed. As a result of analysing the movie named “Im Juli” (In July) and the same-named novel, differences within themselves and starting from these differences, the elements of interaction that complete each other in transition from visual expression to literary narration will be mentioned. Taking into account the narration languages, narration forms, literature and movie which have their own rules and disciplinary measures will be analysed by means of comparison method. In the first part, literature and cinema will be discussed. In the second part, how a new discipline called sineroman (Literaturverfilmung) emerged as a result of application of literary works to visual structure will be explored in the light of scientific studies. In the third, part the internationally awarded film “Im Juli”, written and directed by Fatih Akın, will be examined with reference to the film analysis method. Moreover, the literary work which was taken from the same-named film and transferred to novel by Selim Özdoğan will be discussed. In the conclusion part, script and the same-named novel will be compared; the differences and similarities between them will be discussed Meanwhile, the techniques used in the the adaptations of movies into novels or vice versa will be studied. In addition to these, the differences and similarities in these techniques will be compared and contrasted with regard to the Fatih Akın’s award-winning movie, In July and Selim Özdoğan’s novel In July by using a variety of movie and novel anlaysis techniques. Thus, it has been observed that novels, based on the movies, need to be explored and analysed with different techniques and require different approaches as in line with the changing demands in the society.
