Abstract :
The main purpose of this study is to analyze what STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) education is and its scope, to reveal the effects of individuals who receive STEAM education in both academic and daily life and to provide information about the relationship of STEAM education with art. This research is a descriptive research using qualitative data collection techniques such as literature review and document analysis. In order to reveal the contributions of STEAM education to art education and to show what innovations or changes these contributions will bring, books, periodicals, conference papers were examined and interpreted to present a certain perspective. As a result of the examinations, it has been observed that STEAM education has become increasingly popular in our country and with the integration of art, the profile of students who think, research, question, produce innovative ideas and have different perspectives has increased. At the same time, STEAM education is accepted as an attractive approach by students in terms of providing an enjoyable learning environment. It has been proven by experimental research that art improves many abilities such as thinking, observation, verbal and written expression, and the inclusion of art in STEAM has also revealed skills such as better questioning ability, higher concentration and finding more effective solutions to problems. It is also seen that it provides individuals with many job opportunities in the field of art. STEAM helps a good education to be better. Strengthening existing programs with potential STEAM is important to prepare children for a variety of growing careers and to develop the global community and country economies. It encourages students to go to university, to business, to various career paths whose potential is not yet known. However, there are not enough studies to include STEAM education approach in art education and to eliminate the deficiencies in this subject. It has been determined that there is a need for more studies on how STEAM education can be included in arts education. It has been determined that most of the studies are about STEM, not STEAM, and the field of art was not included in the studies. In addition, more research is needed on the necessity of STEAM education in teacher education undergraduate programs.
