Abstract :
Introduction: Acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM) is an immune
mediated disease of brain. It usually occurs following a viral infection or vaccination,
but it may also appear spontaneously. Serious problems associated with receiving the
Measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine are rare.
Methods: We report a case of 12-month-old girl with fatal outcome of ADEM
following MMR vaccine. She had taken MMR vaccine 10 days prior to admission.
and finally the patient died with Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) of 3 on the day of
admission.
Conclusion: ADEM should be suspected in a child with fever and neurologic
abnormalities, including impaired consciousness, especially one to two weeks after a
viral infection or after vaccination. and the proper cares and treatments should be
performed rapidly.
