Abstract :
The study was designed to identify the language learning strategies (LLS) used by pre-university students in order to help contribute to the English language teaching and learning processes. The findings are essential in providing English lecturers with valuable information on how their students process information, plan and select the most suitable strategies to understand or solve a problem and help their students become better language learners by training them in using the appropriate strategies. The aims of the study were 1) what LLS do GLL (good language learner) employ to learn English language for each skill, 2) what are the classifications used by GLL. The subjects were 10 students who were chosen based on random sampling. A semi-structured interview was employed as the instruments used for data collection. The findings demonstrate a list of LLS employed by GLL and a combination of classification of skills for each skill. Thus, poor language learners can be taught the effective LLS to improve their proficiency in each skill.
