Abstract :
In this study, risk factors such as breed, age, sex and season along with mortality rate have been aimed to report in owned dogs referred to the small animal clinics of Ataturk University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine between the years 2006 and 2010. The material of this study was constituted of 53 dogs diagnosed as canine parvoviral (CPV) enteritis by a rapid CPV antigen test kit. Referring date to the clinic, breed, age, sex, and clinical sings and vaccination against CPV has been recorded. When the appearance ratio of CPV enteritis has been evaluated between the age groups, the ratio (32.07%) was higher in ≥2 3 months and ≥3 4 months than other ages and there was a significant difference between the age distributions (P 0.001). The appearance of the disease was higher in males (75.42%) than females and there was also a significant difference between the sex distributions (P 0.001). Although the frequency of CPV enteritis occurrence was relatively higher in spring season (35.84%), this ratio was not statistically different. Additionally, the disease was encoun-tered more in Sivas Kangal breed (45.28%). Six of the dogs died in spite of the treatment. In conclusion, in the owned dogs with CPV enteritis from Erzurum province, the disease has been encountered in each season of the year; the risk of appearance was higher in males and 2-4 month-old ages; mortality rate was 11.32 % in dogs under therapy and Sivas Kangal and Kangal mixed breed has a predisposition to the disease.
