Abstract :
Flow cytometry is a device for qualitative and quantitative analyses of the phenotype and characteristics of cells. The outer and inner cellular proteins, organelles and other components analyses and their separations are based on the size, granularity and fluorescence emission detection using laser and electronic technology. Making analysis in heterogeneous population in a short time and is a powerful tool that is capable of high-purity separation of cells. Flow cytometry is used widely in hematology, immunology, and clinical practice of human medicine and it has been an indispen-sable part of the immunology laboratory. In recent years, flow cytometry has become a valuable clinical diagnostic tool with a wide field of use in veterinary medicine. Detection and treatment of persistent and/or clinical infections having adverse effects on animal and human well-beings would easily be made using flow cytometry in clinical field studies performed by veterinarians in the near future. The prevalence of veterinary use of flow cytometry, is available with the separator material and more commercially monoclonal antibody. With this report, the general principles of flow cytometry, advantages and applications that are used in veterinary medicine has been reviewed.
