THE DEVELOPMENT OF TOURISM TRANSPORTATION IN TERMS OF MARITIME TRANSPORT

When we look at the history of marine tourism it is observed that it is not too old. With the Internationalization movement, the development of transport policies gained momentum and that has affected maritime transportation in a positive way. At the end of the 90’s or even at the beginning of the 2000s, while the development problems and solutions of the sea, coastal and cruise tourism were being examined, in recent times, it has begun to be discussed in terms of contribution to the economy and the sustainability of marine tourism more. In this context, the purpose of the article is to compare the number of tourists coming to our country by sea in the last 10-years period and to examine the activities towards the increase of economic contribution of marine tourism. In this respect, in the first part, tourism-maritime-transport trilogy is extensively associated; in the second part the incentive factors for the development of marine tourism are explained, recommendations and the results regarding the sustainability of maritime transportation are given.
