This article discussed theories of children development; such as cognitive and linguistic theory by Piaget and social emotional theory by Erickson. These theories were foundations in developing criteria of suitable storybooks for certain age; two to four, five to seven years old. The criteria discussed were types of books, types of sentences, illustrations, and types of stories that captured children s interest. Therefore, teachers and parents should be aware of the criteria as a guide in choosing the suitable books for their children
